💡 What Interstate Moving Is

Interstate moving involves relocation of your household from one state to another, sometimes 100 miles or more. It requires longer travel times, weight- and distance-hypertext moves, and more coordination than a local move. It involves packaging, loading, transport, and delivery with lead times of weeks. People mostly utilize FMCSA-certified movers, but truck rentals for one way or portable containers are adequate for small or do-it-yourself moves.

This moving company did a fantastic job!! My husband had nothing but positive things to say about the crew who packed up our household in Fairbanks; and I have nothing but positive things to say about the crew who delivered and unpacked our belongings in Anchorage. I am shocked at how they lifted and moved some extraordinarily heavy items so smoothly without damage or even a scrape on a wall. They were also very kind and patient with me as we navigated a LOT of stuff with some small spaces–which took some expertise and finesse on their part. They went above and beyond our expectations. I have never had such a stress-free move 😆❤️

Such a great crew! Packed my entire home FILLED with fragile items in 2 days AND I’ve been unpacking and haven’t found a single thing broken. 10/10 recommend to anyone who is nervous about packing or first time big movers.

High fives to Kone and Nio for being exceptional movers! They worked non-stop to pack up my house over 2 days. I had large items, fragile goods, plus a motorcycle that they packed with care for its long journey to the lower 48. These are some of the hardest-working guys I’ve seen, and definitely the best crew of movers I’ve ever worked with. They were friendly, professional, courteous, showed up on time, and stayed late to make sure everything got done; all while being short one crew member and traveling to a remote location. I couldn’t be happier with the work they did – thank you!!!

⭐THANK YOU Royal Alaskan Movers ⭐ for moving my family and saving my husband’s back! After a fast paced move, the majority of my belonging were stuck in storage. After a call to Royal, we were able to get everything moved in a few hours! The crew was prompt and extremely courteous and careful with all our belongings! Scheduling was fast as well. I called and they came out the next morning! We were moved in less than 4 hours! I would give 10 Stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Norman, Ben, and Sione did an awesome job delivering and unpacking. Fast and professional, I would use these guys every time if I could.

Outstanding work! I used Continental Van to move my mother from Wasilla to Anchorage. Ken set me up in a timely manner, and was quick on the callbacks and followthrough. The 3 man moving crew were professional, respectful and diligent with the pack up, taking care with fragile items. They also made the delivery and unpack an easy and positive experience for my anxious 70+ mother. The borrow/return totes saved my family a lot of money, it shows Continental Van thinks of their customers first. 10 out of 10 would recommend and will definately use again!

Notes:

  • Add 10–20% for peak summer moves or tight dates.
  • Ferries/weather can extend timelines—good carriers share updates and narrow windows as your shipment moves.
  • Packing, crating, shuttles, long carries, stairs, and storage are extra.

How to Cut Interstate Moving Costs

Here’s how to bring down interstate moving costs: lock in sensible dates, ship less, and cut the paid labor at pickup and delivery. The fewer hours and add-ons your move needs, the lower your final bill.

  • Get rid of the dead weight. Sell or donate heavy, low-value pieces (old mattresses, particleboard furniture, worn appliances). Shipping often costs more than replacing.
  • Pick off-peak dates. Mid-week, mid-month, and outside summer usually price better. A wider pickup/delivery window can lower the rate.
  • Collect multiple binding quotes. Get at least three “binding” or “not-to-exceed” estimates based on a detailed inventory to avoid surprise overages.
  • Pack the easy stuff yourself. Do non-fragiles and closets; keep boxes uniform, under ~50 lb, and clearly labeled by room to speed loading.
  • Eliminate access fees. Reserve elevators and curbside parking, clear hallways, and aim for a short truck-to-door path—no shuttles, no long carries, fewer stairs.
  • Disassemble in advance. Take apart beds, remove table legs, drain appliances, coil cords, and stage boxes near the exit so movers work faster.
  • Choose the right service type. Compare full-service movers, shared/consolidated loads, and portable containers; longer delivery windows usually cost less.
  • Be smart about coverage. Released value protection (~$0.60/lb) is minimal; price third-party insurance for high-value items instead of paying for full packing everywhere.

How to Choose a Interstate Movers in Alaska

Alaska’s ferries, remote highways, and winter weather can shift timelines and budgets, so the mover you pick really matters. A solid screening upfront keeps your plan realistic from pickup to final drop-off.

🛡️ Compliance and Insurance

Confirm a valid USDOT (and MC if required). Ask for certificates of insurance (cargo and liability), coverage limits, named exclusions, and whether you can be listed as certificate

❄️ Alaska Know-How

Look for winterized equipment, tire chains, and experience with Alaska Marine Highway ferry bookings, rural access, and long gaps between service hubs.

💰 Estimating and Pricing

Insist on a written estimate that states binding/non-binding/not-to-exceed terms. Make sure accessorials are itemized, and clarify valuation, deposits, and cancellation policies.

⭐ Reputation and Claims

Read recent reviews for patterns in care and communication. Ask for their claims rate, typical response time, and a named escalation contact.

📦 Services and Capacity

Define what’s included: packing, custom crating, storage-in-transit, assembly, specialty items, and tracking. Note minimum hours, blackout dates, and seasonal limits.

📍 Scheduling

Verify pickup and delivery windows, service areas at both ends, and whether crews are in-house or handled by agents/subcontractors on certain segments.

Moving Tips for Alaska Residents

Moving out of Alaska has a few quirks you won’t see in the Lower 48: long distances, limited roads, ferry schedules, and weather that can stall a truck for days. Plan for wider pickup/delivery windows, book transport early, and do everything you can to make access simple on both ends. The tips below keep costs and delays in check.

  • Book around seasons, not just dates. Late spring–early fall offers smoother roads and sailings; deep winter can add weather holds and access fees for snow/ice.
  • Lock ferries early (if used). If your route touches the Alaska Marine Highway or other ferries, reserve vehicle spots months ahead and share sailing info with your mover.
  • Widen your delivery spread. Alaska line-hauls often run consolidated; a flexible 7–21-day window usually prices better and avoids reconsignment fees.
  • Simplify access on both ends. Reserve elevators/parking, clear paths, and confirm truck size restrictions. If a big rig can’t reach your home, arrange shuttle parking in advance.
  • Purge heavy, low-value items. It’s often cheaper to replace particleboard furniture, worn mattresses, and bulky exercise gear than to ship them thousands of miles.
  • Verify credentials and coverage. Confirm USDOT/MC, cargo/liability insurance, and get a binding or not-to-exceed estimate based on a detailed inventory; add third-party insurance for high-value items.

How We Chose the Best Movers in Alaska

At “Simplified Moving Solutions”, our marketplace highlights movers that are properly licensed, insured, and consistently deliver solid customer outcomes. Below is the plain-English version of how we evaluate providers that serve Alaska. We keep things transparent, measurable, and update our picks regularly.

Our Method, at a Glance:

  • Verify eligibility (licenses, insurance, real business details).
  • Collect data (reviews, complaints, safety/compliance, services, coverage, pricing signals).
  • Score each mover using weighted criteria.
  • Editorial review to check anomalies, recency, and Alaska-specific fit.
  • Publish and refresh the rankings on a set cadence, with fast updates if facts change.

Data We Use
We compile information from public registries, consumer feedback platforms, complaint databases, safety/compliance records, company disclosures, and our own user satisfaction signals. When records conflict (e.g., multiple DBAs), we reconcile against the most authoritative sources and the company’s legal filings.

Updates and Corrections
We aim to refresh rankings on a regular cadence and make out-of-cycle updates for material changes (license status, enforcement actions, major complaint spikes). See something off? We welcome documented corrections from companies and customers.

Independence and How We Make Money
Ranking placement is not for sale. If a company partners with us, it’s disclosed and kept separate from the scoring process.
