Norman, Ben, and Sione did an awesome job delivering and unpacking. Fast and professional, I would use these guys every time if I could.

Outstanding work! I used Continental Van to move my mother from Wasilla to Anchorage. Ken set me up in a timely manner, and was quick on the callbacks and followthrough. The 3 man moving crew were professional, respectful and diligent with the pack up, taking care with fragile items. They also made the delivery and unpack an easy and positive experience for my anxious 70+ mother. The borrow/return totes saved my family a lot of money, it shows Continental Van thinks of their customers first. 10 out of 10 would recommend and will definately use again!

High fives to Kone and Nio for being exceptional movers! They worked non-stop to pack up my house over 2 days. I had large items, fragile goods, plus a motorcycle that they packed with care for its long journey to the lower 48. These are some of the hardest-working guys I’ve seen, and definitely the best crew of movers I’ve ever worked with. They were friendly, professional, courteous, showed up on time, and stayed late to make sure everything got done; all while being short one crew member and traveling to a remote location. I couldn’t be happier with the work they did – thank you!!!

⭐THANK YOU Royal Alaskan Movers ⭐ for moving my family and saving my husband’s back! After a fast paced move, the majority of my belonging were stuck in storage. After a call to Royal, we were able to get everything moved in a few hours! The crew was prompt and extremely courteous and careful with all our belongings! Scheduling was fast as well. I called and they came out the next morning! We were moved in less than 4 hours! I would give 10 Stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Average Long-distance Moving Costs From Alaska

Alaska long-distance moves are all about routing and timing. Ferries, winter windows, and long line-haul legs can add cost fast, so these ballpark figures assume a standard two-bedroom load with curb-to-curb service and basic protection. They don’t include crating for specialty items, long carries, storage, or remote access surcharges some destinations require.

How to Cut Long-distance Moving Costs

Long-distance moves from Alaska get expensive because of weight, routing, ferries, and winter timing. You’ll save the most by cutting pounds, improving access, picking the right service level, and avoiding extra “touches” like storage-in/storage-out.

  • Purge heavy, low-value items. Sell or donate bookcases, old sofas, gym gear, and bulk pantry goods before the survey; weight drives long-haul and barge costs.
  • Time the pickup wisely. Aim for late spring or early fall and mid-week dates; fewer weather delays and better carrier availability usually mean better pricing.
  • Right-size the container. Compare liftvans, shared/containerized options, and dedicated units; don’t pay to ship air in a half-empty 40-footer.
  • Fix access at both ends. Reserve parking, arrange elevator pads/keys, clear snow and ice, and measure tight turns to avoid shuttles, long carries, and wait charges.
  • Self-pack the simple stuff. Box linens, clothes, and nonbreakables yourself with sturdy used boxes; leave glass, artwork, and odd shapes to pros.
  • Skip unnecessary storage. Align pickup and delivery to avoid warehouse handling; each storage-in/storage-out adds fees and risk of delays.
  • Get the right estimate type. Ask for binding or not-to-exceed with a detailed inventory and all accessorials (stairs, ferry, crating, fuel) spelled out in writing.
  • Consolidate services. If you’re shipping a vehicle, compare bundling it with your household goods vs. separate auto transport; one vendor and schedule can cut duplicate minimums.

How to Choose a Long-distance Movers in Alaska

Alaska’s ferries, remote highways, and winter weather can shift timelines and budgets, so the mover you pick really matters. A solid screening upfront keeps your plan realistic from pickup to final drop-off.

🛡️ Compliance and Insurance

Confirm a valid USDOT (and MC if required). Ask for certificates of insurance (cargo and liability), coverage limits, named exclusions, and whether you can be listed as certificate

❄️ Alaska Know-How

Look for winterized equipment, tire chains, and experience with Alaska Marine Highway ferry bookings, rural access, and long gaps between service hubs.

💰 Estimating and Pricing

Insist on a written estimate that states binding/non-binding/not-to-exceed terms. Make sure accessorials are itemized, and clarify valuation, deposits, and cancellation policies.

⭐ Reputation and Claims

Read recent reviews for patterns in care and communication. Ask for their claims rate, typical response time, and a named escalation contact.

📦 Services and Capacity

Define what’s included: packing, custom crating, storage-in-transit, assembly, specialty items, and tracking. Note minimum hours, blackout dates, and seasonal limits.

📍 Scheduling

Verify pickup and delivery windows, service areas at both ends, and whether crews are in-house or handled by agents/subcontractors on certain segments.

Moving Tips for Alaska Residents

Long distance moves from Alaska hinge on timing, routing, and access. Plan for ferries and weather as seriously as boxes and tape, and work the details that actually move the price and the schedule.

  • Map your route early. Check ferry schedules, seasonal road closures, weight limits, and low-clearance bridges that can change equipment or timing.
  • Pick the right season. Late spring or early fall usually beat peak summer and deep winter for price and predictability; add buffer days for storms.
  • Trim the load. Sell or donate heavy, low-value items before the survey; weight drives long-haul and barge costs.
  • Choose the right container. Compare liftvans, shared loads, and dedicated 20-foot or 40-foot units; do not pay to ship empty space.
  • Fix access at both ends. Reserve parking, get elevator pads and keys, clear snow and ice, and measure tight turns to avoid shuttles and long carries.
  • Pack smart. Self-pack linens and nonbreakables in double-wall boxes, label on two sides, and leave glass, art, and odd shapes to pros.
  • Plan storage on purpose. Align pickup and delivery to skip storage in and storage out; if you must store, choose climate controlled and limit extra handling.
  • Protect for freeze and thaw. Pad electronics and instruments, loosen jar lids, and do not ship liquids that can burst or candles that can deform.
  • Lock in the estimate. Ask for binding or not-to-exceed with a detailed inventory and all accessorials in writing, including ferry, fuel, stairs, and crating.
  • Photograph and document. Shoot pre-move photos, record serial numbers, and keep copies of orders and inventory for claims and delivery checks.
  • Vehicles and toys. If shipping a car, ATV, or boat, follow battery and fuel rules and photograph condition; compare bundling with household goods versus separate transport.
  • Coordinate housing. Confirm keys, move-in windows, certificates of insurance, and elevator reservations so the truck is not stuck in standby at delivery.

How We Chose the Best Movers in Alaska

At “Simplified Moving Solutions”, our marketplace highlights movers that are properly licensed, insured, and consistently deliver solid customer outcomes. Below is the plain-English version of how we evaluate providers that serve Alaska. We keep things transparent, measurable, and update our picks regularly.

Our Method, at a Glance:

  • Verify eligibility (licenses, insurance, real business details).
  • Collect data (reviews, complaints, safety/compliance, services, coverage, pricing signals).
  • Score each mover using weighted criteria.
  • Editorial review to check anomalies, recency, and Alaska-specific fit.
  • Publish and refresh the rankings on a set cadence, with fast updates if facts change.

Data We Use
We compile information from public registries, consumer feedback platforms, complaint databases, safety/compliance records, company disclosures, and our own user satisfaction signals. When records conflict (e.g., multiple DBAs), we reconcile against the most authoritative sources and the company’s legal filings.

Updates and Corrections
We aim to refresh rankings on a regular cadence and make out-of-cycle updates for material changes (license status, enforcement actions, major complaint spikes). See something off? We welcome documented corrections from companies and customers.

Independence and How We Make Money
Ranking placement is not for sale. If a company partners with us, it’s disclosed and kept separate from the scoring process.
